Hectare
A hectare is the metric unit for measuring land area. One hectare is 10,000
square meters or 2.471 acres.
Hectoliter
A hectoliter is the metric unit for measuring volume. One hectoliter is 100
liters or 26.42 gallons (US) or 133 bottles of wine. I bet you can’t.
Hybrid
A hybrid grape results from a
crossing
between a
Vitis vinifera
variety - such
as Riesling or Pinot Noir - with an American vine. Hybrid grapes were once
widely planted in France, Canada, and elsewhere but have lost popularity over
the years. Contrast hybrid to
crossing.
Italy tends not to create hybrids; with hundreds of natural varieties they don't need to.
Hydrometer
A hydrometer is an instrument that measures the
sugar level
of grape juice during ripening, harvest or
fermentation.
