Albana di Romagna

Emilia-Romagna has one and only one DOCG wine, Albana di Romagna, the first white wine to be awarded this classification (in 1987). This was perhaps the most controversial of all the DOCG awards. Albana di Romagna is a straw yellow wine with golden highlights at 12% to 12.5% alcohol made uniquely from the white Albana grape, native to the region. It may be vinified in a variety of styles dry, sweet, and passito (made from dried grapes). From what I have read, don't bother with this wine, with the exception of the passito version, which in its best renderings "fairly explodes with flavors of quince, citrus fruits, and apricots." Many suggest that Italy reduce the non-passito versions of this wine to DOC, and keep the DOCG classification for the passito. Don't hold your breath. Serve this wine at 44-47 degrees Fahrenheit (8-9 degrees Centigrade).
