In the days of Falernum wine
Latium is in the heart of central Italy. There are no DOCG wines in this region. Historically there were excellent wines such as Falernum produced in the hills not far from Rome. Given the fact that the volcanic soil is well-drained and well-ventilated, it should be possible to produce fine wine.
I understand that some local winemakers are working very hard to return this region's wines
to their days of glory. Just because many Latium wines (I won't name names) are unexciting
is no reason not to look for gems either in Italy or in wine stores. Latium or Lazio wines may even be relatively inexpensive.
